The Fontenille Pataud manufacturing process adapted to produce the SpacePep's Experience

Production of the handle

The master cutler uses a pencil to trace the outline of the knife on the selected piece of precious wood. This trace acts as a guide for cutting out the templates that will form the handle of the knife. The piece of wood is then roughly cut, leaving a few millimetres on each side of the trace.

Machining of Ariane 5 rocket metal inserts

The master cutler selects a rocket part that he feels is suitable in size and thickness for the customer's order. This piece is then shaped using machining lathes and special sanding machines in order to obtain the perfect shape. The inserts are then fitted with precision into the handle of the knife.

Assembling the knife

At this crucial stage, the carefully prepared parts are assembled in a symphonic melody of hammer blows. Each component, from the blade to the bolster, is meticulously adjusted by the master knifemaker with his precise and sharp eye. By the end of this stage, his creation has come to life.

Finishing and sanding

Each surface is smoothed using an in-house process involving a multitude of machines to reveal the natural lustre of the wood and the shine of the steel. The end result is a smooth, unique aesthetic that will pass under the eye of quality control before the final stage, engraving.

Laser engraving

This stage adds a personalised touch to each knife. SpacePep's emblem, your initials, or company logo are carefully engraved on the blade and spring according to the customer's wishes. After this stage, a final quality check is carried out before the knife is packaged in its box for delivery to the customer.
